Showrunner Matt Miller interview, ‘Human Target’ on FOX – Monsters and Critics

The television series, which is loosely based on the DC comic book, also titled ‘Human Target,’ features some fantastic characters in Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), Winston (Chi McBride) and the unconventional Guerrero (Jackie Earl Haley), who not only make up a good team unit, but also a family of sorts.

The series for me is somewhat of a throwback to the action adventure series we saw in the 70s and 80s, but done on a bigger budget with juicier action scenes.

But ultimately, it is the chemistry between the three leads is what keeps me tuning in. In recent weeks the series has returned for its second season on Fox, and has undergone a few changes.

Monsters and Critics recently caught up with new showrunner Matt Miller, who kindly took some time to discuss some of the changes to the show and even gave us a few hints at some of the things we’ll likely see happen in future episodes.

Broadcast Ratings For Human Target Season 2 Episode 2 “The Wife’s Tale”

Human Target episode 2 “The Wife’s Tale” pulled in 5.6 million viewers and scored a 1.4/5 in the ever important A18-49 demographic, leaving it in 4th place for its time slot. This is down from the premiere but it should be noted that viewership levels were down across virtually all networks due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Ratings should rise next week…

Woman’s touch improves the aim of ‘Human Target’ – Reading Eagle

Varma plays billionaire philanthropist Ilsa Pucci, who brings needed funds to the unorthodox security business operated by the three amigos of Chance (Mark Valley), Winston (Chi McBride) and Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley). Montgomery plays a talented thief who joins the group.

“It’s nice having other players, other relationships,” said Valley just before leaving for Vancouver to shoot the second season. “We get to see how Chance reacts to women on a continual basis. How the whole team reacts to someone in more of a position of authority. And how the guys act to women in authority.”

Valley said the addition of female characters isn’t a network ploy to broaden the show’s viewership but a means to a healthy conflict between the guys who are accustomed to handling cases in their own unique way and the women who will bring a different perspective.

Eventually both sides will realize this is a good fit.

“The most exciting part is that it’s going to change up our dynamic a little bit,” Valley said. “For me, the first season was great, like a brotherhood with Winston, Guerrero and Chance. This second season we’re fleshing things out and have a broader spectrum of relationships.”
